Training for Certification
A necessary step for anyone who wants a career in Project Management is to obtain certification from the Project Management institute (PMI). Generally, certification requires a number of years of experience (varies depending on education level) and passing an examination. The examination is constructed from the “Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge” and can be obtained directly from PMI. I have coached a number of people through this process using the training material listed below:

Quiz Answers
The Overview can be viewed and downloaded. I will be happy to send the other modules upon an email request.

These are the core modules of the “Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge”, and a thorough understanding of these is necessary to pass the test. However, I have found that the language used in the examination questions can be tricky. I therefore advise getting a set of the examination questions and taking and retaking these sample tests until the applicant achieves over 90% correct.

While certification is an important step in a career of Project Management it does not guarantee a successful project or project manager. In my experience, regular review of project performance and coaching of project managers is necessary for successful projects. More on this later.
Publications
PMI was organized in geographic Chapters and Special Interest Groups. I founded a Special Interest Group (SIG) for managing Service and Outsourcing Projects. This SIG enjoyed a maximum membership of about 1000 members representing over 50 countries. As a leader of this SIG I wrote articles and presented the following papers in an effort to gain recognition that Service and Outsourcing projects have unique characteristics:
